Columbia Energy’s subsidiary, hydroGEOPHYSICS, Inc. (HGI) provides leak detection, characterization and monitoring, and imaging. HGI has the capability to employ several methods to determine leaks including resistivity and ground penetrating radar.
Resistivity is the measure of resistance to electric current. A high resistance to electric pulses could indicate low amounts of electrically conductive material (such as water or other conducive material) in the soil and vice verse. This detection method is effective in:
- Leaking vessels and structures
- Geomembrane leak detection
- Reclamation and environmental remediation
- Plume delineation
- Mining and geological exploration
