 TurnKey Project Highlight:  Decontamination of a Metal Parts Casting Plant

Columbia Energy was retained to characterize and decontaminate a commercial casting plant that used uranium sand in its casting processes. The client retained us to characterize the facility for radioactive contamination, decontaminate the facility, and provide post-decontamination characterization and surveys. Contamination from uranium and uranium daughter products was found throughout the process, administrative, and wastewater areas of the plant. We decontaminated approximately 10,000 square feet of walls and floors, numerous pieces of process equipment, and miscellaneous facility support and operating equipment. At completion of the project, we prepared a summary report that identified the locations and levels of contamination before any decontamination was conducted, the actions taken to decontaminate the plant, and the post-decontamination radiation levels.
